Overhead horizontal trellis for mirliton (Sechium edule, chayote) in Eunice, Louisiana. I like this since it is only four feet wide which allows the grower to reach all the vine if standing on a short ladder--to hand-pollinate if necessary (no bees), or to push small fruit through the wire mesh to mature as hanging fruit. You can also weave the growing vine into the mesh which secures it from strong winds. This narrow trellis enables growers to employ a small sprinkler to protect from early frost or sub-55 degree temperatures which can damage immature fruit.
